Axel Witsel will play for the Belgian national team again after a year’s break. Tedesco invited Witsel because he believes that with his experience this player can help in the defensive part of the team in which this national team has several young players such as Wout Faes from Leicester and Zeno Debast from Anderlecht. Debast joined the Belgian team alongside the experienced Jan Vertonghen, who will be the pillar of Belgium’s defense at UEFA Euro 2024.
In Germany, we will not see the guy who guarded the Belgian national team’s net for years, Thibaut Courtois, whose recovery from a serious injury last summer is a priority. The future of this guy in the national team is not exactly the clearest in the future. He entered into a conflict with Tedesco and if he had not suffered an injury, it is a big question whether he would have been invited to the national team.
No team needs a negative atmosphere and Courtois fanned the flames in March by calling Tedesco a liar as he said he had tried everything to mend the relationship with Belgium’s best goalkeeper for years. The whole dispute arose after Tedesco did not award the captain’s armband to the said player for the matches in June last year.
We will see who will be the first choice for the goalkeeper of Belgium at UEFA Euro 2024 because in the past period Cohen Casteels from Wolfsburg and Matz Sels from Nottingham Forest took turns in goal.
